Prestige Interiors was tasked with the refurbishment and preparation of an immersive learning space at Harrow College. This project aimed to create a functional and modern environment that would serve as the foundation for advanced technology installation by ClassView and i-Immersive. The transformation redefined traditional educational spaces, providing an engaging atmosphere for over 800 students and staff.

Budget and timeframe

With a modest budget of just over £30,000 and a tight four-week timeframe during the summer holiday, Prestige Interiors leveraged its expertise in educational fit-outs and innovative design to complete the project on time and within budget. This achievement reinforced Harrow College’s commitment to providing modern, high-standard learning environments.

Scope of work

        Space preparation and finishes

• Removal of outdated elements such as carpets, benches, steps, the teaching podium, and AV and electrical components.
• Wall repairs and redecoration to modernise the space.
• Installation of wipeable ceiling tiles (Dano tiles) for easier maintenance and durability.
• Upgraded flooring with an I-Immersive-specified carpet to enhance the user experience.
• Installation of blackout blinds to eliminate glare and enhance the immersive experience.

        Lighting and electrical adjustments

• Installation of 16 new dimmable Ansell lights and dimmer switches (1x four-gang and 1x single-gang) for optimal lighting control.
• Adjustment of wall power outlets to meet the requirements for immersive technology integration.
• Replacement of the outdated pull-down TV with a sleek, integrated system.

Challenges

• Space preparation: The team efficiently removed existing features and prepared walls and floors for redecoration and new installations.
• Technology integration: Coordinating with ClassView and i-Immersive to ensure the space met the technical specifications required for the immersive technology setup.
• Time constraints: Given the tight four-week schedule, meticulous planning and execution were crucial to completing the refurbishment on time without compromising quality.

Solutions

To address these challenges, Prestige Interiors implemented the following solutions:

        Space preparation and finishes

• Removed carpets, benches, steps, teaching podium, and associated electrics and AV equipment.
• Made good walls to ensure a smooth finish for decorating and flooring upgrades.
• Installed new I-Immersive specified floor carpet and replaced ceiling tiles with wipeable Dano tiles for ease of maintenance.

        Lighting and blinds installation

• Supplied and installed 16 dimmable Ansell lights and dimmer switches for adjustable lighting levels.
• Installed blackout blinds to reduce glare, creating an ideal visual environment for immersive learning.

        Electrics and power adjustment

• Adjusted wall power outlets to meet the requirements for immersive technology integration.

The immersive technology installation was expertly managed by ClassView and i-Immersive, equipping the room with state-of-the-art interactive systems to enhance student engagement and learning experiences.
